First LET Title for Spanish Tania Elosegui at ABN AMRO Ladies Open
ABN AMRO Ladies Open in the Netherlands was won by Tania Elosegui. The Spanish overcame a two stroke deficit on Italian Diana Luna and won the title with a total score of 207 (-9). Diana Luna, came second with one stroke extra. Norwegian Marianne Skarpnord came third place with -6.
Tania Elosegui first victory in the Ladies European Tour means a lot to her, as she says afterwards. "Each week someone has to win, this victory meant to be for me.” Elosegui, who won € 37.500, played the last day with 36-hole leader Diana Luna. The Italian carded a final round of 72.
Two-and-a-half metre birdie putt
Elosegui and Luna were going steady until the 17th hole where Elosegui played birdie and came alongside Luna. On the last hole the Spanish player clinched the win by nailing a two-and-a-half metre birdie putt on the last hole. The Italian hit her second shot into the front right greenside bunker. Despite an excellent sand save, she was forced to settle for second.
Leading Amateur
The richly-deserved victory was the first of the 27-year-old Spaniard's four-year career on the Ladies European Tour. It followed five runner-up finishes, including her most recent to England’s Laura Davies at the Women’s Australian Open in February.
"I feel very, very happy because five times I’ve finished second already," she said. "Once she (Luna) holed her putt I told myself, “You have hole this: you’re not going to finish second again.”
Marieke Nivard was the leading amateur in equal 14th and was the best placed player from the Netherlands.
