in the late 60's and early 70's Nchanga golf club was the best place to be in Africa. Great course good caddies brilliant club house what more could an ex pat want from life apart from a swimming pool or maybe living on Pope Drive or Oppenheimer

The course is almost 7000 yards long, but you get a lot of roll on the fairways. Greens are a little bumpy and you have to give the ball enough speed to get to the hole without deviating too much. The bunkers are quite well placed and tee boxes were ok. THey have to keep the fariways watered and I saw a lot of water being hosed on the fairway by the maintenance people - sometimes, there are overhead water sprinklers, not ideal when your ball lands anywhere close to them when they are on. There were some little monkeys on the 14th green and they took my golf ball! Had to run and shout to get them to drop the ball back on the green and got it back. Areas between greens and tee boxes are a bit tricky to walk sometimes with the spikes when there are hard pan/rocks etc. A lot of small bridges to cross small ditches running across fairways and makes it interesting strategically placed. Overall, nice course to play and really cheap if you are traveling from europe - I paid Kwacha 40,000 which is roughly £5 for a round. Caddies cost you £2.50 only.
